The Dirt and Gravel Road Program was created in 1997.  The purpose of the program is to provide training and funding to local road owning entities to mitigate stream pollution from dirt roads.  To date, the District has received a total of over $339,975.00 for funding, administering, and educational events related to dirt and gravel road improvement projects in Mifflin County.  The District has completed 18 projects involving 5 different townships, with project costs totaling more than $250,000.00, with an additional $57,000.00 committed to pending projects.  Through the District, more than 5.5 miles of dirt road have been improved with and demonstrating environmentally sensitive road maintenance practices.
